Joining the all-new, 10th-generation Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe at the end of this year is the recently unveiled Honda Civic Hatchback. The newest member of the Honda Civic family offers drivers a striking design, sporty European driving dynamics and performance from its standard turbocharged engine.
Shown in prototype form at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback doesn’t compromise when it comes to sportiness, efficiency and utility. In the U.S., the Civic Hatchback will only be available with the new 174 hp, 1.5-liter direct-injected turbocharged four-cylinder engine with the choice of a CVT or 6-speed manual transmission.
The Civic Hatchback was a joint effort by Honda R&D teams in Europe and Japan, and marries core values from each of those markets. The design features a long wheelbase, short overhangs, larger wheels and tires, bigger air intakes and distinct LED lights to give a dynamic and aggressive appearance.
“We knew that we needed to create a striking and stand-out exterior design that challenged conventional European compact styling while staying true to the original Civic’s core values,” said Daisuke Tsutamori, the chief exterior stylist for the 2017 Civic Hatchback Prototype.
In 2017, the Honda Civic Hatchback, Sedan and Coupe will be joined by the all-new Civic Si models and the first ever Civic Type R that will be available in the U.S. The 10th-generation Honda Civic lineup will by far be the sportiest and most expansive in the car’s 44-year history.
