Honda recently revealed the all-new Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Clarity Electric, which join the already available Clarity Fuel Cell zero-emissions vehicle. Honda is targeting a big increase in electrified vehicle sales in the next few years, and wants to see two-thirds of its global automobile sales come from electrified vehicles by 2030.
“The Honda Clarity is aimed at accelerating the deployment of advanced electrified powertrain technology and bringing electrified vehicles further into the mainstream,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “The Clarity series also heralds the advancement of our Honda Electrification Initiative, representing our investment in the full spectrum of electric-vehicle technologies.”
Each Honda Clarity variant features a low, wide aerodynamic body with unique design elements, including different front styling, headlights, tail lamps and 18-inch alloy wheel designs. The premium interior can comfortably seat five adults and uses environmentally responsible materials.
The electric powertrain delivers plenty of power and offers a refined driving experience while still keeping Honda’s fun-to-drive DNA. The 2018 Clarity Plug-in Hybrid offers an all-electric driving range rating of 42 miles, and the efficient 1.5-liter gasoline engine extends range to over 330 miles.
The 2017 Honda Clarity Electric uses a 25.5-kWh battery pack that can be fully charged in just over three hours at 240 volts, and can be charged to 80 percent in just 30 minutes when using DC fast charging. Three driving modes are available to choose from depending on your driving style – Normal, Econ and Sport.
